Marks/Inscriptions: B. 486 Blackett, Henry (1820-1907 was born in Durham the youngest son of Cuthbert B lacke , worst.ed and carpet manu fact ure. He was school Edie . at Durham Graner ar, and spent five years under Mr Fees th Lle Woolen draper, f Durham . He spent a year and another in Manchester in the Woolen trade and then went to Lou don and was Employed by Makin+ Co as traveller and buyer. He married in '50 was or 8 a chap a in Durham Fetid in came out to N.Z. in Search of health. He arrived at Nelson in '58 and in May of that year came down to Lylt in the schooner Gip - of 18 tous. He opened a general store in Rangiora Gipsey o being anring the Early settlers there. He was gazetted postmaster of Rangiora, May 65. He got the contract for supplying uniforms to the Oxford volunteer Coy. He se hilt ed a Hornsby plough at the fist Northern A.+P. Show in '66. He was elected to the Mandeville and Rangiora Rd. Bd in (the second year of its ear stance) The Bd. used then to meet at Woodend . He moved thet the Headquarter s of the Bd was moved to Rangiora and his motion was carried .He was fourteen years a member - - many of them chairman. He took a gleaton interest Cyclop N.Z. 11 .
