Marks/Inscriptions: B. 483 Blackburn Thomas (1825-66) arrived at Lylt. by the British Crown, 17.8.63 with his wife, Mary, 40 his children Wm. 8 and Richard The But ish Crown was one of those ships who brought out emigrants rom the North of England dist reed by bad times in the cotton industing . The family went to Kaiapoi and lived in tents where Felons ferry had been. Black burn made a beds eades from the trunks of cabbage trees and the Children slept on to i- toi and flare underneath it. one in gut the bed collapsed the children under neath were nearly Suffocated. The Black burns moved to Ohoka Road and thei to Sneyd St. There he built a frame house and 1 fed it with hess ian. When it rained he fow d his roof was no good and he had to get conga led ion but unf otiake ly he drove the nails though the hollows instead of the ridges. He d. buried at Kaiapoi Cem. 21.8.66 aged 41 wife Mary d. 2.7.75 aged 54.
