Marks/Inscriptions: B. 452 Birnie James (1838-79) came from Port Sligo, Aberdens hire. He was a member of the Comm. of the Mandeville Ploughing Hatch June 72 . He was present at the farewell diner to James Walls, the the well known Clydesdale breeder who was off to Scotland to bey a new stallion, . 74. He was chairman of the Kaiapoi Ploughing match. Jane 74. He judged at the Lin colne Ploughing Match the same year. He judged pigs at the ChCh Show Nov. 75'. He came out in the Gann sans -9.5.60 marr. 1s. 3.76 at the Manse, Kaiapoi by the Rev. J.McGregor Ann Penney of Scotland.
