Marks/Inscriptions: B. 44.1. (1862-193) and again '75 Biod , Arthur E. won a Prov. Gor.t. scholar ship in '70. . In about he and Phineas Selig founded the Referee which later became the Official journal of all N.Z . Racing Club and in '91 was bought by the Press and was incorporated with the Weekly Press. In '83 he was Sporting Editor of the Canterbury Times and in Ang. left for Melbourne to take up a similar f sit ion on the Sportsman . Same friends gave him a durer before he left - including C. Hood Williams , See. of Talus sals and committee man of the C. J.C. and he was presented with a gold stop watch . He was the only son of J.A. Bird of ChCh. marr. at St Luke's by Rev. E.A. Lingard 20.10.85 to Georg ina Adams adopted dau Cof John Martin Thompson of Woolston. He wrote sporting news under the grame of Sir Lancelot Educ. X's Coll . 73-74 He. d.
