Marks/Inscriptions: B. 437 Birch , John (1826- in his application to the Canty Assoc for a 50ac. section he gave his address as 33 Cuauhtemoc Square, London . He had lived at Clifton near Bristol. He came out in the croy. Mrs Godley wiles of him, " Mr Burch, a fried of Arthur mills and we hear , a very munce person , came i board in perfect health, and fell ill from some nervous disease hy po condi cal of some thing of the Sort, and after getting better and worse several times, is come on shore completely y paralysis , and crest Even fed himself or sit up " Later "ho was carried out of the shipp and laid for four months in bed w ith out the use of his limbs . he could turn his head about and eat, but weis perfectly helpless ; and for a great part of the time was given up by all the doctors , wonderful to Say he is getting well and recovering the use of all his limbs and can now sit by the fire and read and turn over his book ; he sits out of doors for hours every fine day and has grown quite fat and rosy . It was fortunate that Le had some morey, and he has now a very g ood respectable hind of a man as a servant. who makes him very confor table" He made a good recovery but was obviously a delicate man. pass list. He succeeded Fitzgerald as Editor of the Lylt. Times and he was managed as well . He stated to the Prov. Goo.t. at what price he would print the Geizetts + Prov. Govol . Papers 26.9.53 Canty Mus) George Tayler, a member of the staff of the Lylt. Times said "he was a breezy and him on ous water who indulged largely in firing off. political subs which were then fashionable in Weal journalism. He piloted the Lylt. Times though the turmoil of the first election " R.L. Heggie is and Caverhill had an argument in the L. T. over a matter of s cabby sheep ; and Caverhill accused Higgins of employ ing Burch as a ghost " to write his letters. Geo. Tayler said he was the brains of the paper.
