Marks/Inscriptions: B. 420 Biddle G. (1823- 1908) had worked Peto and Brassy , raileviey contractors in Eng. France , Gen any + the Crimea. He came out to N.Z. woth the English contractors for the tunnel and fired the first shot. when they abandoned their contract he remained there. He farmed for mary years at Cust ; he lived on the Boundary Road near West seton. He was elected to the Cust Rd. Bd. Jan 77. He was described then as a well sinker of of Cust. He remained on the Board till '91. one day when he had been burning rushes he went p away to attend a Rd. Bd meeting and failed to put out his fire: his stacks were in serious auger. His wife died before him1 He lived firth in the Heathcote valley. No family. he d. at Rangiora 14 .8.08 aged 8.5 Se +oell ooved LT. 6.1.77 : 17.8.08 : F.
