Marks/Inscriptions: B. 240 Bell , John Terras (1835 1908) lived for some time at Spreydon . He was elected to the Spreydon Rd. Bd. to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of A. whincop mar. 70. He presided over a meeting called. to consider the terrible stale of the Lower Lincoln Road from Bells Budge to Tai Tapu. At this time he was a member of the Halswell Rd. Bd July 70. He was elected a member of the Halswell Sch. Comm. Dec. 70. He was Rev. Croasdale Bowers hunch warden for Halswell parish ap. 71. He was acting chairman of the Spreydon Rd. 1d. Sept. 71. Hals well church was in debt at this time '71 and Bowen was setting very little stipend from the parish. He was re-elected to spreydon Rd. Rd Jan 7 3 second on the poll to H. J. Tancred , and again 74 - 76. He was elected to West ChCh School Comm. Oct. 75. He say gave Evidence at an assessment Court which sat on 5 acres of land taken for Addington workshops . Hess was and had been s some time Chas. Clarks con trent al clerk. In Oct. 79 he went into part. with E.J.T. Ford. as auctioneers , land Cohirly brokers , van toe. He gave evidence again before an assessment July 80 After A year he resigned from his part. with E.J.T. Ford Sept. 80. He d. 25.10.08 at thiele h v. add n aged 70. only son Dr James Alexander Terras Bell - studied tenderness at Dunedin Medellin sch. and com plated studies at Edinburgh - of specialised in E4s, sar , nsse and throat at London. Edinburgh + Vienna - returned to ChCh. Surgeon Capt. Main Body 1914 war ; died of hamson haye of brain 29.12.14 aged about 44 He had an accident - collided with one of the Tumbles " widow 2 ch.
