Ellis 's memory was placed in St. Peters church, Akaroa. After Belcher death his place in the firm was taken by his brother Richard. Besides the account in Tabs of B.P. there is a full account in LT. 30.10.68. The inquest is reported in LT. 19.11.68. Barkes conduct was strongly enticed at the time and the R.M. spoke strongly against him. The Seaman, Cunningham s evidence was against him. Barker defended himself LT. 16.12.68 and a letter from Georg c Anniston g of Akaroa backed him up. In 1 T. 8.12.68 a letter from Geo. Bishop the Okains Bay schoolmaster defended Barker nd cunticised Amn ingham evidence. A letter p signed Wari tas was against t Barker and noted that Bishop was not in court when Barker was examined .
