Marks/Inscriptions: B. 281 Beauchamp , Arthur (1828- was born 4.10.28 and was educ. at High gate Grammar School. He had some commercial training and then in 1848 left by tho barque Lock agar r Aust. where , was in business in Vict and N.S.W for several years. He came to N.Z. to take possession of a property left him by a relation but encountered difficulties ow ing to a difference between the Govt. and the N.Z. Company. He returned to Aust. and joined in the gold rush a d then started Auctioneer g in Melbourne. The climate was fatal to his children and he sold out and came across to N.Z. in the brig Lalla Rook, and settled in Picton and started in business in '61. He opened a branch in Buller in '67 as auctioneer and Timber merchant, From there he moved to Wan fanni and then to Wgtn and finally started sawmill ng in Manaroa. Pelorus Sand. but his sawmill was destroyed by fire. He represented Picton in the General Assemb in 66 and was also member of the Marlborough Pro. Coun. He sold his ron , the Grove , Aneesh Charlotte sand, to his brother Cradock in ' He came to ChCh in '80 and took into part. Arthur Bel to foren and they went into buist mess as auction gars and estate agnes. They diss. part, 31.7.84 and Bell was bankrupt soon after and Cyclop N.Z.v.
