Marks/Inscriptions: B. 269. Beatson William Ford (1833 -8904) was born in Peckham. hain don, educated at a private school and at Kings Coll. , Somerset House, London. He was trained as an architect survey o2 and engineer in London by his father William Beatson and served As a pupil for five years. He came out to Nelson with his parents and the rest of the family by the Midlothian , arriving in '51 and stayed there farming and sus very ing . liven ty thee years. He settled in Canty. in ' and was for two years with W.B. Anson , architect and after wards practised on his own account. In Jan 76 he was appointed 5ec. surveyor and collector to the Avon Rd. Bd. When St Albans was incor Dora ted as a borough ( became Town Clerk. He laid out every road from Inne 's toad to whitish Budge. Selwyn Dunce says that he was responsible for the perpetuation s of the Toll Gate at Papanui but this is not so. His father was the architect of Nelson Collge and died in '69 aged 61. His moth lived at Warne a St. Nelson and d. there 21.7.89. marr. Clara Adelaide Mc Shane. Her brother. in law Col. John Draper served in N.Z. 57-67 and died at Bella ista , Gor allar 14.2.91 Cyclop NZ i. S.
