Marks/Inscriptions: D. 262 Bean, William Charles (1859-1952) was born in Kaiapoi the son of R.S. Bean. His parents and elder brother came out to Canty in the Zealandia and arrived in Sept. 58. He attended the Church school Kaiapoi till he won a Prov. Govt. Scholarship in 70 when he went to 2 's Coll. and . fey , remained ill '73. He worked i an office in G Kaiapoi and then came to ChCh and was accountant to Mason, Struthers + Co . Later he started in business on his own account. He was a director of the Westport Stockton Coal Coy. , Mason Struthers +Co , and the Kaiapoi Woolen Coy. At lhe time of his death he was a director of the Mutual Benefit Building Soc. and of Weekes L1d. All his life he worked or the C. o r years he ran Herrick s Home r the relief of dis Press iCh Ch and for more than fifty years was an exerti ve officer of the Col Cholmondeley Home , Governors Bay. He was a Church Property Trustee, a member of the Cloying Pension Trist Board, Diocesan Synod , Standing Comm. of the Synod and Bd. of Nomination. He was a membe of the Cathedral Chapter F nearly 45 years - many years he was hire Warden of St. John 's. He gave the pulpit and rails to Avon side Church and his P. 15.8.52. Xs Coll Sch. hist.
