Marks/Inscriptions: D. 234 Barter , John (1847-95) was the son of the Rev. Mathew Barter He started a chemis ('s shop in Victoria St in the 601s. He first Advertised Bader s Ling Preserver in '73. When John Paul , the chemist of Oxford died in '80, Baxter started a chemists shop in East Oxford , but he still Kept his Victor ie St. shop going . His two sons continued it after his death. B arles Ling Preserver has remained one of the most popular of patent modemen to this day , and it has been consis ten ly well advertised. There is a Story - probably not to be taken too seriously - r4, that when he dred he left half the recipe to one son and harp 6 the other and th rt ounce a year they met and having put the cheap Jilling " ing redan s into a large cauldron on, Each cast in the small sect ones ( "' Eye of newt. toe of Co Pete ) and thes Constituted the annual brew.
