Hawkins Says that an agreement was Signed .8.51 for Baxter to put a flat bottomed dinghy and a punt on the Waimak. below the two branches ; charges to be horsemen 16 , foot- passengers 6? For various reasons he could not carne on there and moved his plant back to the North branch h and left the S. Brach to the Maoris to look after. In the middle of '53 Geo. A photograph taken in 1862 shows his hut in the Foreground with Wooden wales and a that died in a state of decay. d Woof " E.S. Baker says it was built in 1847. There was also an Archibald Baster of Kaiapoi. probably same man. Hawkins says that Arche bald Barter had an early timber punt called the Belly.
