Batten, John ( 1893) was the son of James Baller of Maid stone Kent (1765-1838) and Martha (1787-1837) who were marr in 1807 and had thirteen children, marry of whom died young. His bother James had gone to America angd hiisbs he went to look for him in . He worked in Toronto and cleveland and returned to Eng. He arrived ath Lylt. by the Sebastopol 14.12.61. 5 2' cabin. He was engaged to Sarah Marton of Maids tone and she arrived by the Bala lava, .3. 64 and they were married on the Earliest possible dry after then arrival , They lived alle their married if on Moor house Av He had bein apprenticed to an agi cultural implement maker in Maids tone and then worked as a joiner in Rugby. His trade was really that of a pattern maker. He once built a pattern a circular cast iron staircase - an awkward e and difficult one to maker. He went to John Anderson to t employment and foudy that he already had a palton maker. so ho went back to carpentry and building and went into partnership with Henry Killner, They dis. part. in , James- 26.3.67 . He was inspector of building for ChCh C.
