Marks/Inscriptions: B. 1888 Barry , William was employed by the G ree woods and probably the Rhodes1s as shep herd in the 40's . on leaving Purau he went to Akaroa giving his name to Barry 's Beryl at the head of the har bous He left the Peninsular during the 5o's . Greacen, Black says that. Barry was a policeman in Akaroa in '41. Bays early land claim was allowed in a similar fashion to the Hays Sinclair s ste. Barrys Bay . Andersen says a steam Saw mill was started there at the end of '57 : a bridle track was opened from Lette River in June 68. a school was opened in '76 and a post offic on 1.10.73.
