Marks/Inscriptions: B. 183 (1826 - 66 Barrett John was oared of the four Barrett brothers who crossed ron Aust. to N.Z and took up land in the Halswell (see Chas Barrett) He ardent ly , spent most of his time looking after Barrett Hoel successf Ste stood or) the first Municipal Connal Elechimn in ChCh Feb. 63 and he most have been a citizen of some note , for many well known men failed to get in . He resigned in '63 and one of his brothers was elected in his stead. marr. on the same day as his brother Charles 1.1.61 at St Michaels by Arch d. Mathias to Annie, youngest dau of W.Phillips of Bideford , Devon. He d. at Daniels Hotel 13.5.66 aged 40. After his death Barrett Hotel was sold as a going Con cem , including stock, to W.
