Marks/Inscriptions: B. 17a43 Barr , John Porteous (1837 -94) of Ayers hire, Scotland and bought out his family to N.Z. in the "William Miles ' arriving in '60. (Says N.Z. Cyclop adir , but his name does not appear in the pas list; but i no proof that he was not a passenger). He took up land at Courtenay and farmed there 2 ten years. Then he moved to Annat and farmed there for 20 years, Ste He showed a cow at the Courtenay show of Dee. 71 and won fush Prize. He was a member of the East Malvern Rd. Bd. July 74 and 75. His farm was thrown as Mountain Meadows. He had 1350 acres of freehold and 80 of lease hold; t was advertised for sale Jan. '80 He did not sell his farm. He was chairman of the East Malvern Rd Bd. may 84. The Ban fam by left for the Noth 3 Sept. 91. He was given a gold watch by his friends at a farewell function. He was going to Gisborne as one of a Syndicate which had bought a brog property and he was to be managing partner. sending Sheffield. Sch. Comm. He d. at Gisborne 9.8.94 aged 57 Cyclop.
