Marks/Inscriptions: B. 143 Barker , William Edward (1858 -1935) was the young ist child + on of Dr Barker and was born in Ch Ch . sud He was educ. at Mrs Alabaster3s and at 's Coll. 74- ; he went on to Jesus Coll . Camb while he was at Cambridge he met Mis Pritchert who was studying at Gion College and she persuaded him to give up his medical studies . They were married in Eng. in 1880 and stayed first at Wainui with the ( roth ur Bakers . He bought 150 ac at Waikonini , Pee Forest and planted part of it in fruit trees. In 1901 he planted cherries and plums which were netted in . He was a lay reader of St Stephens and took Bible classes at the Sunday School. He became a follower of the Salvation Armey and joined the Band of Hope and the Good Templars Lodge He gave the Bishops chair to St. Stevens and the bell was a memorial to his first wife . Horticulture was his chief interest . He was a member o f the 8an Icee Bd. for the preservation o f Pel Forest. Bish. He took part in the anniversary celebrations taking the part of his father .His wife died in Jan 84 about ten days after her confinement; it was said to be scarlet fever .
