Marks/Inscriptions: 1. F.282 , Edward Christo ther (1854-1914) is believed to have belonged Ashby, to the well known North Canty family of the same name . He entered the ion mon ery firm of S. and H. Nashelski in '64 (2). In 78 H. Nashelski retired and in '90 S. Nashelski died. E. Ashby and L. Bergh them bought their business (they had both been employed in it) and thus the well- known firm of Ashby , Bergh was founded. Ashby was manager at the time of S. Nashelski ' death. In '97 he made a trip to England and Amenable partly to set the latest ideas about the ion mongering trade . He joined the ChCh Volunteer Fire Bde June '68 . He was an energetic fireman and appointed fore man of the Dreadnought Engine. He was a member of the Industries. Assoc. of Canty. Marks/Inscriptions: D r87 C.C. Ashby. I. from LT. 16.3.14 Obit. notice. She form at present known as Ashby Bergh was established in 186 0 and was conducted from '64 to go by S. Nashelski. Ashby and Bagh then took it Over. Ashby retired from Active management in 1911. He was a geat Swimmer and rowing man - one of the furst members of the ChCh. Swimming Club. He was fond ol bowls and was an ogunleye member of the ChCh Bowling Club and was President in 88 and 1900. and was a life member. He won the Ruk Champion ship of N.Z wither w .Savage W.W. Parsons and B.Hale in 9o at Dunedin . He wars an aot ive member of the Canty A. +P. Assoc. and foreman of the Ch Ch Volunteer Jure Bde. and an Original member of the Aty Guards. Ha was for twelve years president of the Federal Club. Two brothers A.G. and W.J. live in ChCh : an d a siste Mrs J. Norre in Invercargill.
