Marks/Inscriptions: A. 244 Archer, Harry (1844 -1918) was born at Great Henny , Essen 28 .4.44 And was brought up as a flour miller . He was the second son of ) Henry Archer of St. Mary's Hall , Walter Belch amp, Ess ex. He arrived in Lylt. by the Mermaid in '65. He was employed in Lanes mill for a short time and then went to the West l cast gold fields and unlike most. returned better of than he went. He built a mile at Russells Flat and after he left there he took over the Southbrook mill from Gr inwood. on his way back from the gold fields , Wagging '8W it aron the wes t Cast Road, he stopped a ought at Welt George Willis hole at Sheffield and met Willis 's dau, Nellie whom he married in 174. After seven years at the mell he took up hole - Keeping in May 84 F and started at the Club Hoel in Rangiora . then changed to the Royal at Woodend and then had Middleton s at Kaiapoi (when Black weed 's "building now stands) , While he was at Kaiapoi , lis wife had a bad 9i9 accident and broke her lig which had to be amputated .
