Marks/Inscriptions: A.229 Anson Thomas familton (1843 -94) wes born in Indrawn , the son of Major F. Walpole Anson , H.R.1.C.S. 18' Bengal Native Infantry. He lived with his parents through the Mutiny . His father died soon after the Mutiny and hi mother took him to England and he was educated at Cheltenham. He came out in the Cressy in 59 being then only Sixteen. and went to Heath stock as a cadet. His letter to his mother cle sarbin+ his first Winter 1s still in the passion of the family . I happened to be g very hard inter and he spent it in a boundary hut with a foot of snow on the ground and w ith Tolling to eat but mutton and damper. He wrote indignantly hort the stories about the N.Z. Climate were a brand and a delusion and he had a very Cow opinion of it. It is said that he also cadet tel with Charles Harper at Lalie Coleridge. Acland says that he and Karslake bought Waiaka in '62 and after two years sold it o the Co Chamberlain brothers , absentees. In partnership with Richard Northey Hopkins he bought the Brook dale Country (part of Eased le Nook) in . Marks/Inscriptions: T.H. His on A. 229 arsdale and Anson for £7000 off shears. They bought Mt. Torlesse in Feb. '68 and in it Feb. 73, was sold to J. and J. Brett sons of Col. Brett for £9500; it was then described as being of 120 ac freehold and 22 000 leasehold with g000 sheep. Anson and HopKins sold bought the St Desert Station in '78 from Herbert Mathias . Anson bought Hopkins out and gradually sold of the land. The last of it with the homestead was sold to Hr. Feutz in '87. the family say that Hopkins was unsteady and unreliable and was undesirable as a partner. Ars on married Miss Gorle in 72 and for a time he and his wife lived at Eased ale Nook homes lead From the photographs it was a fire hous with good ties . Later he bought Winter old Capt Gorle s home a t Courtenay and ond de it his home. Hs probably died more local work in Malvern Co than anyone else He was chairman of Malvern n Sch. Comm. from the start ; he was also chairmen of the local Rd. Bd. and o + P. Assoc. ; was a member of the North Canty. Educ. Anson Anyone who hoped to di local work in the Courtenay area had to make up his mind to ds battle with John Jason who with his miner ous sons did ist hesitate to noe Violence f all else. failed. Anson wars chairman of the Malvern Rd. Bd in '70 and when Jebson got in and started using his usual tackles Anson and all the other members resigned. Anson was then appoin led Comm issued for Malvern Co. When the ariel meeting came round Jebson r0se and said his explanation must Core before all other matters. The Courtenay Farmers Club held ed for se c show in '72 al the Desert Homestead. This show faded aw ay but but ans on started again in one of his paddocks 14.12.77. Later this show was moved to Kirwee. He sold his farm called Plain Lands Farm net door to Kirwee Railway Station and advertised the sheep for Sale - just over 2000, May 77. He was a gut man , always helped other and was very well liked. He was elected a meer ver of th ChCh Club in '63. Dunge He stood for the Selwyn in electorate in Dec. go and was defeated by Alfred Saunders. Pail was just out of his reach . but he was a member of the Selwyn C.C. He was chairman of the North Canty .
