Marks/Inscriptions: A. 173 Anderson, James (1840- 1926) was born in Calcutta where his father and mother dred. He was brought up by an uncle and Aunt in Scotland and came to Wgtn 2 by the baguette Clara in 151. He rented a farm fr omn the Lock Bros. at Ashley. John Parlane worked for hum there and afterwards 12 mon this on a farm at Loburn which he rented f ron a Mo Haward His farm was next to Author y Hodgson , well known at Loburn in the early days . Anderson was helped by a deserting sailor , very Mandy with tools, who stayed with him for years . He had a darryl farm on the Ferry Road for 23 years ard was a member of the Woolston Bo.r. Coun. audley Sch. Comm. He retired in '99 and went to live on 20 ac. which he stel owned at Ashley he marr. 5.1.69 Mary 2' dau. of W. Dixon of Ashley she d. Wharanui , Ashley son Alex. d. Woolston 15.11.04 ag. 34 6 aged 8 dau Ethel d. Waimate 27.3.12 ag. 32 he d. at Amberley 28 .9.26 aged 89. oily surv. son Bison marr. 28.10.08 Edith both bur ied Rangiora Pub. Cem.
