Marks/Inscriptions: A. 17. Allen Richard . (1860-1930) was born in Eng came out to NZ and was in the milling business in Timaru and Farlie. In '96 he came to ChCh and bought the Riccarton Mill and ran it successfully tob till he sold it in 1918 to Fleming + Co. He was a director df Ward + Co. Mace + s. Halswell Quarry Co, Canty . Aviation Co , ChCh Gas Co and a member of th NZ Flour illes Assoc. . He was a member of the Canty and ChCh Clubs and was a trustee of the former . He was a member of the Comm . of the C.J.C. and pard particular attention to the catering side of the committees respon si bites. He was a truste of the Canty . Racecourse Reserve . He owned or had an enter est in a few hor es - Lady Zealand, Saracen , Ivan off. married 1919. Beatrice dau of Joseph Palmer of the V.B. P and w dow of Richard V eason Ogle he d. 26 .6.30 aged 69. dau Diana he lived at the Mill House to which he added a large and beautiful roon He was a generous host who delighted to entertain, of a quest consented to have a whisky he would be rather staggered at being offered a very large glass with a helping of whis ey to match : known as Dick Allen; Type of mark: Machine translation/Transcription; Notes: Machine translation by Mark Fryer
