Marks/Inscriptions: A. 108 X Allan , Frederick ( ros came out in the Crossing in 1850. He was a cab driver in ChCh. Four of his sons followed ( him as cab drivers in ChCh. His youngest son Robert - Known as "Shiny Bob " from the beautiful polish he kept on his cab. was the last hanson cab driver on ChCh and probably in N.Z. Bob Alen as a youth worked in D. Prins rs stables at Rusley, in Mace '6 trotting stables , then as a Coachman and finally as a cab driver. In 1907 horse cab licenses in Ch Ch were 107 and tase licenses one. In 1911 horse cab licenses were 75 and tart cabs 76 . In 1932 taxi cab licenses were 173 and the only holder of a horse cab license was Shiny Bob. His last brie was to the Mornin where he delivered his cat as a historical tele. His stand was opposite the B.C. in Cashel St. Mary of his fares went to Addington Yards. His cab had been oe the road for 32 years with no repairs except new tyre and four boers for the Springs. He died in 53 leaving a widow and a married dau. marr. 27.3.95 Priscilla 3' dau. of Edward Fletcher of Saltwater Crick. his dau was Mrs O.H. Smith of He. Cl. in June 195'3 aged 82.
