Marks/Inscriptions: D. 50 1918) in 56 Aiken John arrived in Nelson from Scotland and joined the form of Nathaniel Edwards + Co. as accountant and remained with them till 1873, the fam later consisted of Nathaniel Edwards , George Burnett, John Aken and John Connally (qv.J. Edwards , an early surveyor , a merchant. D. H.R and Legislative comncilloer withdrew from the ferm in ly7 and died in '80. Geo . Bennett was a London partner. The other two partners John Aken and Jon Connally started in ChCh in '73 . Geo. Bennett remarried their London partner till Nov. 86. John Arken retried fr oun the form in '87 in 99 and went to England and stayed there for five years. married in '61 Celia dau of Joseph Garrard of Har wick , Essex . She had arrived in Nilson in '59 with her brothers Joseph and Jacob ( later the Hon. Jacob Garrard of Sydney) . She and her husband lived in Ch Ch 1899 when they left fo or England . They returned to N.Z . in 1913. She ate voted a large part of her time to Reene Work and was first President of the + Finale Refuge in ChCh. Lady Kinsey was her sister Geo Arken of Nelson (father of John ' ? ) Robert Stile Aken of Woo doomed Plantation , Arens land who manned Annie Jones at his home 19.12.67. also a dau. Margaret Russell who mar. Frederick Wright of Riversdale, Dunsandel.
