Description
One Sung Dynasty, Cizhou earthenware dish; free brush black pigment painted design on inside of dish against a cream white background; painting consists of a central swirl surrounded by stylistic leaf-like forms boarded by three continuous sweeping lines; rim of dish outlined with same dark pigment; underside of dish mainly unglazed; dark crimson-brown paint applied straight onto raw ceramic wraps around the bowl mid-way; the foot ring is thick; base constructed of coarser material then the rest of the bowl.
