Researcher comments/remarks
The process of negotiation with EQC and insurance companies together with other delays and frustrations have led to the development of a recognisable genre of dry and dark earthquake humour in Christchurch. Other expressions of this have been found in the 'You know you're from Christchurch when…' comments which were gathered together on Facebook then published as two joke books. This humour expresses both how daily life was disrupted and the frustration many people experienced with the process of assessing and repairing earthquake damage.
