Researcher comments/remarks
The retaining walls above and below Cunningham Terrace were severely damaged by the 22 February 2011 earthquakes. As a result, the road was blocked off and some houses were red stickered. The long period of disruption to daily life resulted in local artists expressing their opinions on the handling of the situation through satirical artworks. At the time these works were created it was 14 months since the earthquakes. Work started on constructing the retaining wall to support the road in August 2012 and the road was reopened (but not sealed) in April 2013.
