Researcher comments/remarks
The rear portion of this building was built in 1851 and is regarded as one of the oldest buildings in Canterbury. It was sold in 2006 to the Christchurch City Council and vested in the Grubb Cottage Heritage Trust. In August 2013 the building was opened to the public following conservation and strengthening work; further repair work was required after the Canterbury earthquakes. The cottage is remarkable not only for its age but for the mainly original condition in which it remained. It is registered as a Category 2 Historic Place with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
