The site formerly occupied by Ground Delicatessen was made available for a Gap Filler initiative called the Lyttelton Petanque Club. This property was purchased by the Christchurch City Council in July 2012 to provide a civic square for Lyttelton. In May 2013 several transitional artworks were erected on the site. The area will be known as Albion Square, after the hotel which previously stood on the site. The major features of the design are the relocation of the Lyttelton War Memorial to the upper part of the square and the carving of a Waharoa (entranceway) which is to be called Ohinehouroko in recognition of the pre-European name for the area.
