Researcher comments/remarks
Prior earthquake strengthening enabled the Lyttelton Coffee Company to undertake work to repair the damage caused to their 1924 building by the 22 February 2011 earthquake. The building was originally J D Bundy's Butchery. While the Lyttelton Coffee Company was under repair several staff created Samo, a temporary cafe which operated first from The Loons until that building was closed after the 13 June 2011 earthquakes. Since then they have served coffee and food from a converted garage below a house on Canterbury Street. In late 2013 the Samo website stated that when the Lyttelton Coffee Company’s premises are re-opened they intend to be “absorbed” into the operation.
