Researcher comments/remarks
The sense of loss felt when confronted with the collapse or demolition of an historic building is compounded when that building is also a home. While the community sees a gap in their familiar streetscape, and may question whether that loss is actually unavoidable, the owners of these buildings are also facing the decision about how to proceed with their lives. The question of whether a building can physically be repaired or restored is tempered by the question of whether that building can once again be a home in which its owners can feel safe and relax.
