Researcher comments/remarks
Many of Lyttelton's retaining walls sustained earthquake damage and the process of rebuilding those owned by the Christchurch City Council is being managed by the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT). Work on the town’s retaining walls is expected to take until 2015 to complete with the replacement walls designed to withstand future earthquakes. One of the engineering features being incorporated is the use of ground anchors to tie the wall to the slope behind by drilling horizontally into the hillside then filling the hole with reinforcing and a cement grout which is then secured to the wall.
