Researcher comments/remarks
With many of the commercial buildings in Lyttelton damaged or demolished businesses facing an uncertain future had to become inventive in their efforts to keep trading. Both the Lyttelton Bakery and Lyttelton Sea Foods began operating from portable buildings on Norwich Quay, a block away from their pre-earthquake premises. The images of the portable buildings show them in their first location, they were subsequently moved to the eastern end of Norwich Quay to avoid being fenced off in the exclusion zone for the demolition of Shadbolt House (the neighbouring six storey building).
