The collapse of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in the 14 June 2011 earthquakes ended all consideration for restoration of the 1859 church designed by George Mallinson. This was the second church on the site replacing the 1852 building designed by Benjamin Mountfort which was declared unsafe in 1857. In late 2013 a third church was transported to the site. St Saviour’s Church, designed by Cyril Mountfort in 1885, was relocated in several pieces from Cathedral Grammar School in Christchurch where it had been used as a chapel since 1976. Before this the building was located on the corner of Simeon Quay and Brittan Terrace in West Lyttelton.
