Researcher comments/remarks
In Christchurch's Central Business District many of the high profile demolitions took place out of public view in the Red Zone. By contrast, the demolitions on London Street after the 22 February 2011 earthquakes attracted a sizable audience. People gathered to witness the disappearing buildings and to informally share stories. The mood of the people in this sequence of photographs showing the digger pulling down the group of buildings, including The Volcano Restaurant and Bar, is also captured in the documentary When a City Falls directed by Gerard Smyth.

I was also the originator of the Volcano, having invited Lois Ogilvie to partner me. I found the site, named and established the business. Sold my 50% share after two years.
