Researcher comments/remarks
The Lyttelton streetscape has changed dramatically from its pre-earthquake appearance and will continue to change as new buildings are erected on empty sections. In this photograph the domestic architecture of the town appears more prominent with many of the larger buildings in the commercial area blocks already demolished. By October 2013 the streetscape was emptier still. Recording the transitional landscapes as the demolition and rebuilding unfolds acts not only as an aid to the memory of a hectic time, but also as a baseline for studying the new urban forms created by the rebuild.
