Researcher comments/remarks
Due to prior earthquake strengthening the Lyttelton Coffee Company was able to undertake repair work to the damage caused to their 1924 building by the 22 February 2011 earthquake. The building was originally J D Bundy's Butchery. While the Lyttelton Coffee Company was under repair several staff created Samo, a temporary cafe which operated first from The Loons until that building was closed after the 14 June 2011 earthquakes. Since then they have served coffee and food from a converted garage below a house on Canterbury Street. In late 2013 the Samo website stated that when the Lyttelton Coffee Company’s premises are re-opened they intend to be “absorbed” into the operation.
