Researcher comments/remarks
Tsukasa Katsube wore this example of the official uniform of the Japanese Disaster Relief Team as one of more than 100 Japanese team members who were involved in various aspects of the recovery operations following the 22 February 2011 earthquake. The Japanese Disaster Relief Team arrived in Christchurch within two days of the earthquake and worked with other emergency services in response to the collapse of the Canterbury Television (CTV) building, where many of the people trapped were English language students from Japan attending Kings Education language school. Unfortunately, the Japanese teams had to leave Christchurch earlier than planned in order to assist in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami which occurred on 11 March 2011.
