Description
One steel, brick and concrete brooch created from debris collected after the 22 February 2011 earthquake; steel from a gas heater has been woven to create three enclosures for the piece of brick and two pieces of concrete; a stainless steel pin has been woven on the reverse for attachment. Worn by numerous people as part of the Host A Brooch project, run by The National gallery, in Christchurch, 26 August - 1 October 2011.

Sixteen brooches were designed as part of the Host a Brooch project, organised by the National Gallery in Christchurch, which ran from 26 August to 1 October 2011. The aim was to promote engagement with gallery exhibitions. Participants in the project took these brooches on excursions around Christchurch, incorporating them into photographs posted on a wall in the Host a Brooch shipping container. This brooch by artist Jacqui Chan is made from woven steel from a gas heater with three enclosures for a piece of brick and two pieces of concrete recovered from the debris from the 22 February 2011 earthquake. A stainless steel pin has been incorporated into the brooch on the reverse for attachment.
