Researcher comments/remarks
This wristband was left as a tribute at the Canterbury Television (CTV) building which collapsed during the 22 February 2011 earthquake killing 115 people. It is one of three identical black wristbands left at the site that were collected for preservation by Canterbury Museum on the first anniversary of the earthquake. These wristbands were sold as part of a fundraising appeal initiated by Telstra Clear with all proceeds going to the Christchurch mayoral fund established for the earthquake recovery process. Telstra Clear donated 200,000 bands which could be purchased for a donation of $5 or more. They were produced in Canterbury provincial colours of red and black, and were worn to demonstrate support for the damaged community. It is one of many tributes that were recovered from the CTV site, in partnership with Christchurch City Council, to be added to Canterbury Museum’s collection on the first anniversary of the February earthquake.
