Many geotechnical reports were independently commissioned by Canterbury Museum following the earthquakes on 4 September 2010, 22 February 2011, 13 June 2011 and 23 December 2011, including this one. These reports were prepared for three main reasons. Firstly, in order to evaluate the land and foundations upon which the Museum is built; secondly, to assess how the ground has been affected by the earthquakes; and thirdly and finally to consider any potential future risks to the building in the event of an earthquake. Prepared by Tonkin & Taylor Ltd, a specialist geotechnical engineering firm, this report has been used in the remediation process undertaken on the Museum buildings following the earthquakes.
