Researcher comments/remarks
This green unrestricted access certificate was issued to Canterbury Museum by Christchurch City Council civil engineers two days after the 22 February 2011 earthquake. It is an example of one of the three types of certificate that could be issued to a building that had undergone a preliminary structural assessment. A red coloured certificate indicated the building was not safe to enter. A yellow certificate indicated that access to the building should be restricted. Green certificates, such as this one, were issued to buildings where no apparent structural hazards were found. In all cases, building owners were responsible for obtaining a detailed structural engineering report. The certificates were issued in order to notify the public of the security of their surroundings and were prominently displayed on the primary entrance to buildings.
