Background
This postcard is one of 15 released by The New Zealand Postcard Society (Inc.) that feature images of Christchurch after the 4 September 2010 earthquake. The description on the reverse of the postcard reads: "Sand Volcano. An unusual aspect of the Christchurch earthquake and the many cases of liquefaction was the appearance in many places of distinctive sand volcanoes. Caused by water pressure forcing sand sediments up to the surface with the water, when the water drained away these strange features were left."
