Set up the NEIL AND PEARL HAMILTON CANCER AND MEDICAL RESEARCH TRUST
Worn by John Neil (Neil) Hamilton, New Zealand (Canterbury) mountaineer who went to Antarctica with the United States Antarctic Program in the 1960s as a field support and guide for early scientific work in the Dry Valley's area. Hamilton also owned Snowline Sports, St Asaph Street, Christchurch and was a life member of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club and New Zealand Alpine Club. Hamilton is a very interesting man (considered quite eccentric by fellow mountaineers) who had a significant impact on Canterbury and New Zealand mountaineering.
Hamilton was considered quite eccentric by fellow mountaineers and had a significant impact on Canterbury and New Zealand mountaineering over several decades. He was invited to work in Antarctica because of his mountaineering/outdoor survival skills.
Neil Hamilton died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Christchurch, aged 94, dearly loved husband of the late Pearl, loved brother of Ruth and the late Bruce, respected uncle of John, Mac, Martin, and Jane. At Neil’s request, his body has been donated to Medical Science. Messages to Mac Hamilton, 17 Allister Ave, Merivale, Christchurch.

Pearl was secretary of the Ski Mountaineering Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club in 1951 when Neil was Chairman
