Researcher comments/remarks
The extent of the damage caused by the 4 September 2010 earthquake is recorded in this book by Christchurch’s daily newspaper The Press. The overall message portrayed is one of community spirit and a commitment to rebuild the city. The DVD presents over thirty minutes of earthquake footage, which emphasises the life affirming reaction by the people of Christchurch in response to the 4 September 2010 earthquake. Andrew Holden, editor of The Press at the time, discussed in the preface how the personal experiences of The Press journalists challenged their ability to conduct objective journalism; everyone in the Christchurch media was affected by their involvement in the disaster. The proceeds from this book were donated to the New Zealand Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
