The inter-provincial rugby match between Wellington and Canterbury, played at Christchurch’s AMI Stadium, took place just three weeks after the 4 September 2010 earthquake. It was a free admission match played as a morale booster for Canterbury, following the 4 September 2010 earthquake. Over 30,000 spectators attended the match which Canterbury won 37-30. The AMI Stadium, originally Lancaster Park, had completed its upgrade for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in early 2010. Badly damaged in the 22 February 2011 earthquake matches scheduled for the stadium were moved elsewhere.
