The Nurses Memorial Chapel at the Christchurch hospital was built in 1927-1928 as a memorial to nurses lost in the 1915 sinking of the Marquette in the Aegean Sea and during the 1918 influenza epidemic. The chapel sustained damage during the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquakes but was considered to be repairable.
