Lichfield Street in central Christchurch is depicted in this photograph. Bains Warehouse, which features prominently, was built in 1903 to a design by J. C. Maddison. In the 1980s additions were made to the building to adapt it into a classic car warehouse. The building survived the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquakes. John Bain opened his first retail store in Christchurch in 1870, importing and wholesaling quality goods into the city.
