Researcher comments/remarks
The old Linwood Public Library, pictured in this photograph, operated as a voluntary organisation between 1909 and 1993. The library was founded by the Linwood Citizens' Association in the Linwood Borough Council Building located on the corner of Stanmore and Worcester Streets. In 1993 the library became part of Christchurch City Libraries and moved to spacious new premises in Cranley Street. That building sustained severe damage in the 22 February 2011 earthquake and had to be closed to the public.
